It’s Going to Be a Sweepy Month

Written by David on October 2nd, 2008

I awoke at 3:00 a.m. with visions of the Electoral College Dancing in my head. And visions of a Palin debate meltdown. And visions of election night euphoria. And visions of Bill Clinton shedding a single, smug tear on Inauguration Day in honor of the first African-American President of the United States.

And then there were waking nightmares that the current poll spike and resulting optimism won’t last. That Reverend Wright and America’s racist underbelly will be the new topic of discussion a week or two from now. Visions of McCain on election night…thumbs up, my friends! Thumbs up!

Needless to say I never fell back to sleep. It’s not the first time it has happened and it’s certainly not the last this month.

Question: why do I care so much about all these people I will never meet, about all of these events that almost certainly will have no direct effect on my life (but am I sure about that)?

Because I love the horse race. I LOVE it!
